For MrCredit we built a WordPress site shaped around the company's services, bringing together currency exchange, a gold pawnshop, car-secured loans and electronics loans.

The main requirement was that the site should not stop at information about the company and its services. A visitor had to be able to work out an amount in advance, on the site itself, through four different calculators.

To do that we built a custom WordPress theme with the currency, gold, car-loan and electronics-loan calculators built into it from the start.

The goal

MrCredit works across several different financial services. Each has its own terms, its own way of calculating, and figures that change from time to time.

The company needed a site that would:

  • present all four core services clearly;
  • let a visitor work out a figure in advance;
  • make the terms of each service easy to take in;
  • cut down repeat questions about prices and loan terms;
  • let the company's own staff manage the figures;
  • work properly on a computer and on mobile devices.

On the site a visitor can work out currency exchange, a gold valuation, and the terms of a car loan or an electronics loan in advance.

A custom WordPress theme

No ready-made WordPress template was used. We built a custom theme around the structure of MrCredit's services and the way the calculators work.

A custom theme was needed because all four calculators have different fields, different formulas and a different way of presenting the result. Building the system straight into the theme made it possible to manage design and functionality as one.

With this approach:

  • the calculators are a natural part of the site's design;
  • a visitor never has to move to another system or an external page;
  • every calculation happens in one place;
  • an administrator can manage the figures the calculators need;
  • terms and features can be extended later.

The currency exchange calculator

The currency calculator lets a visitor see in advance roughly how much they would receive when exchanging a particular currency.

The visitor enters:

  • the amount they want to exchange;
  • the currency they hold;
  • the currency they want to receive.

The calculator works out the result from the rates shown on the site. Several currencies are available, among them the lari, the US dollar, the euro, the pound sterling, the Russian rouble and the Turkish lira.

A MrCredit staff member can change the buying and selling rates from the admin panel themselves. Once a rate is updated, the new figures are used in the calculator automatically.

That matters especially in currency exchange, where rates change often and calling a developer for every update would not be practical.

The gold calculator

The gold calculator helps a visitor work out the estimated value of the metal on the site itself.

To calculate, the visitor enters:

  • the carat of the gold;
  • the weight of the item in grams.

The calculator then shows an estimated amount. Several carats are listed on the site, each with its own price per gram.

The company's administrator can:

  • change the price of each carat separately;
  • enter new figures from the admin panel;
  • keep the values used in the calculator in line with the current valuation.

The feature helps a visitor get a first idea; the final price is set at the branch, after the item has been examined and valued.

The car loan calculator

The car loan calculator is for a visitor who wants a loan secured against a vehicle.

The visitor enters:

  • the loan amount they want;
  • the term of the loan.

From those figures the calculator shows:

  • the amount due each period;
  • the total interest cost;
  • the total to be repaid;
  • an indicative payment schedule;
  • how principal and interest are split;
  • the remaining balance.

On MrCredit's live site a car loan term can be set between 6 and 60 months, and the calculation uses a reducing-balance method.

Through the admin panel the company can update the terms, the interest and the other parameters the calculator uses.

The electronics loan calculator

The electronics loan calculator lets a visitor see in advance the terms of a loan secured against a phone, a laptop, camera equipment or a similar item.

The visitor enters the loan amount and the term, and the calculator works out:

  • the amount of each instalment;
  • the total interest;
  • the total to be repaid;
  • how principal and interest are split;
  • an indicative payment schedule;
  • the remaining balance.

In the electronics loan calculator payments fall every 15 days, and the term can be set between 6 and 36 months.

A member of the company's staff can manage the calculator's terms from the WordPress admin panel and update the figures when needed.

Bringing the calculators into one system

One of the main difficulties was bringing four different calculation mechanisms together on a single site.

The currency calculator works from current rates, the gold calculator from carat and weight, and the car and electronics loan calculators from amount, term, interest and payment schedule.

Each calculator got its own logic, but visually they are presented in one style. A visitor can move to the calculator they need and do the sum on a single page.

Administration

The site was built so that the company does not have to contact a developer for everyday updates.

From the WordPress admin panel it is possible to:

  • change currency buying rates;
  • change currency selling rates;
  • manage prices for the different gold carats;
  • update the car loan calculator's terms;
  • update the electronics loan calculator's terms;
  • edit the service texts;
  • change the contact details;
  • update the site's main content.

A system like this lets the company's team bring the terms published on the site in line with the real offer quickly.

How the services are presented

MrCredit's main lines of business are presented separately on the site:

  • currency exchange;
  • gold pawnshop;
  • electronics pawnshop;
  • car pawnshop.

A visitor can read a short description of each service, work out an approximate figure, and then contact the company or come to the branch.

The site also sets out how the service works: presenting the item, the valuation, and receiving the money.

UX/UI design

The site's structure was planned so that all four services and their calculators are easy to notice.

On the home page a visitor sees straight away:

  • the company's main services;
  • buttons through to the calculators;
  • current currency rates;
  • the estimated price of gold;
  • the stages of receiving the service;
  • contact details;
  • the branch address and opening hours.

The calculators' fields and results were laid out in a clear structure, so that a visitor can enter the right figures without further instructions.

Built for mobile devices

The site adapts to computer, tablet and mobile phone screens.

In preparing the mobile version, attention went to:

  • laying out the calculator fields properly;
  • entering an amount and a term easily;
  • showing the results clearly;
  • moving quickly between services;
  • calling the contact numbers easily;
  • comfortable sizes for text and buttons.

For a financial services site the mobile version matters especially, because people often need to work out a figure quickly, on the spot or from a phone.

The company's staff can manage the rates, prices and loan terms the calculators use themselves. That reduces how much the technical team is needed for everyday updates and lets the company change information quickly.
